Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley to be Honoured by BAFTA

Number 9 Films co-founders Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley are to be honoured by BAFTA for their outstanding contribution to cinema. The producers are responsible for a string of landmark independent films spanning the past thirty years, including The Crying Game (1992), Scandal (1989), Made in Dagenham (2010), Carol (2015), and most recently Colette (2018).

“I am so thrilled Bafta have given us this,” said Karlsen, who was previously the Chair of WFTV and is a Patron of the organisation. Karlsen will collect the award with Woolley at the Bafta ceremony in February. “We are really honoured to be seen as worthy,” added Woolley, “but part of the reason, I think, is that we are still making drama for cinemas – and that is increasingly tough.”
